BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University seniors Lindsay Vrooman and Cody Miller, along with junior Steve Schmuhl have been named to the 2013-14 USA Swimming National Team.

The team consists of the top-six swimmers in Olympic events with times that were posted at the 2013 Phillips 66/USA Swimming Nationals and World Championship Trials, the 2013 World University Games, the 2013 World Championships and the 2013 U.S. Open.

"Indiana swimming is excited to have three colligate swimmers make the USA Swimming National Team," said head coach Ray Looze. "This program accomplishment is indicative of the outstanding summer our women and men had in 2013. Across the board we saw major improvements. Lindsay, Steve, and Cody have now placed themselves on track to vie for the US Olympic team in 2016."

Vrooman made the team in the women's 400-meter freestyle. Her time of 4:08.13 set at the U.S. Open this summer puts her fourth among the top-six American women and was also a new IU record. Vrooman is the reigning Big Ten Swimmer of the Year, winning conference titles in the 500-yard freestyle and 1,650-yard freestyle last season.

Miller is on the squad in both the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke. Miller's time of 1:00.82 ranks sixth among the men, set at the U.S. Open this past summer. He is fifth among the top-six 200-meter breaststrokers, going 2:10.99 at the U.S. Open. Miller is the three-time reigning Big Ten Champion in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke and also won the 200 individual medley title in 2013. He represented the U.S. at the World University Games this past July.

Schmuhl is also on the team in two events, ranking among the top six in the 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley. It was a breakout year for Schmuhl, posting a time of 1:59.90 in the 200 IM at the U.S. Open. He went 4:16.07 in the 400-meter individual medley, also at the U.S. Open. Both are school records. The junior finished fifth in the 400-yard IM at the 2013 NCAA Championships, setting a new school record in prelims.
