Head coach Ray Looze previews the 2012-13 women's swimming season, which begins this Friday as the Hoosiers travel to Lexington, Ky. to take on the Wildcats and Tennessee.
Indiana is coming off a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships and a 13th-place showing at the NCAA Championships. The Hoosiers have some largs holes to fill with the graduation of multiple-time All-Americans Brittany Strumbel, Margaux Farrell, Allysa Vavra and Nikki White.
Leading the way for the returnees is junior captain Lindsay Vrooman. Vrooman had a breakout sophomore campaign finishing first at the Big Ten Championships and sixth at the NCAA Championships in the 1,650 freestyle. She also tacked on an eighth-place finish in the 500 free at the NCAA meet.
Sophomores Justine Ress and Allie Day qualified for the NCAA meet in their first seasons at IU and look to build upon that success. Ress helped the Hoosiers to a fifth-place finish in the 400 medley relay at Big Tens and was second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 200 backstroke. Day placed fourth in the 200 backstroke at the Big Ten Championships.
Senior captain Ashley Specht will pace the team in the breaststroke events, finishing fifth in the 100 breaststroke and 14th in the 200 breaststroke at the Big Ten Championships. Junior Bronwyn Pasloski was seventh in the 200 breast and 10th in the 100 breast at Big Tens.
