Hoosiers Take Gold, Silver on Final Day of USA Diving Nationals

AUSTIN, Texas - A gold medal for Indiana University diver freshman Jessica Parratto and a silver for senior Darian Schmidt highlighted the final day of the USA Diving Winter National Championships in Austin, Texas.
Parratto and partner Anna James won the women's synchronized platform competition with a score of 610.56. On Saturday Parratto earned a bronze medal in the platform competition with a score of 967.90, a cumulative effort over three rounds of competition.
On the men's side, Schmidt paired with Samuel Dorman in the 3-meter synchronized event, finishing with a score of 778.95. Schmidt also competed with Michael Hixon and that pairing finished fifth (752.07).
At Friday's annual awards ceremony, former IU diving coach Jeff Huber was honored with the Mike Peppe Award, given to the outstanding senior diving coach. It is the 13th time Huber has earned the award. Huber's Indiana Diving team won the overall team championship title at the 2013 AT&T National Diving Championships. Four of Huber's athletes represented Team USA in international competitions in 2013. Amy Cozad competed for Team USA at the FINA World Championships and senior Darian Schmidt was on the U.S. squad at the FINA Grand Prix in Canada. Casey Johnson and Conor Murphy were members of the World University Games team.
