Jan. 16, 2012
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's tennis team wrapped up play in the adidas IU Winter Invitational on Monday. Indiana's Evgeniya Vertesheva and Katie Klyczek went a perfect 3-0 on the weekend to win their respective draws in the round robin format.
Vertesheva did not lose a singles or doubles match the entire weekend, capping off the invite on Monday with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Missouri's Maria Christensen. Klyczek won her third match of the event in singles play by outlasting Louisville's Manuela Velasquez, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (20-18).
"Overall it was a good weekend for us. Since we had some time off with finals and winter break, we needed to play some matches before we started the dual schedule, so this weekend was exactly what we needed," head coach Lin Loring said. "As a team we are pretty sore right now, but we should be fine for next weekend when we open our dual match season. We will have three days to practice and work on some things before we fly to North Carolina and open with Duke."
The Indiana women's tennis team will begin dual play with a double-header on Sunday, Jan. 22. No. 3 Duke will host the Hoosiers beginning at Noon ET in Durham, N.C. IU will then battle UNC Greensboro later in the day at 5:30 p.m. ET.
