Tennessee Tops IU in Knoxville
Feb. 12, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 44 IU (7-2) women's tennis fell in its first road dual match of the season to No. 11 Tennessee (5-0) on Saturday afternoon, 5-2.
To start the day, the Lady Volunteers swept the doubles portion of the match. All three doubles matches finished with a score of 8-4 in favor of Tennessee.
In singles play, two Hoosiers picked up wins. No. 91 Leslie Hureau defeated Natalie Pluskota playing in the No. 1 spot in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Charlotte Martin was the other Indiana player who earned a win at No. 4 over Kata Szekely, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
"We did a good job of making the adjustments to their courts," Head Coach Lin Loring said. "We have very fast courts at home and Tennessee's were slower. It was a great win for Leslie against a very high caliber player. I was proud of the team. We fought hard to get in a position to win. Its really hard to win three set matches on the road, we were close."
The Hoosiers return home next weekend for matches on Saturday and Sunday. Indiana will welcome DePaul on Feb. 19 and then Cleveland State on Feb. 20. Both of those matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
