LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 54 Indiana women’s tennis team fell in another heartbreaking match on Sunday afternoon at Kentucky, 4-3.

In doubles, Kentucky (5-2) won the No. 2 match before Indiana’s (8-2) Alecia Kauss and Shannon Murdy won at No. 3 over UK’s Kirsten Lewis and Jessica Stiles, 8-3.  In the No. 1 match, Caitlin McGraw and Nadia Ravita of the Wildcats went on to edge past IU’s Sophie Garre and Leslie Hureau, 8-6, to earn the doubles points for Kentucky.

In singles, UK won in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches to give Kentucky a 3-0 advantage in the team tally.  Indiana then would bounce back to make it a close match.

Garre dominated McGraw in the No. 4 match, 6-0, 6-1.  Kauss followed suit for the Hoosiers as she went to a third set to hold off UK’s Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.  Indiana’s Carolyn Chupa then evened the team score at 3-3 when she cruised to a win in the No. 5 position, 6-0, 6-1.

Just like Saturday night at Tennessee, the match would be decided in the final match of the day.  Kentucky’s Stephanie Fox clinched the match for the Wildcats as she won at No. 6 over IU’s Shannon Murdy, 6-2, 6-1. 

"This was a very disappointing weekend because we played well enough to win at least one of these tough road matches,” head coach Lin Loring said. “We just couldn't get everyone to play well at the same. We had some outstanding performances each day but not enough at the same time. We need to learn from these, get better and move on. Every match the rest of the season will be just like these."

The Hoosiers will next play at home on Sunday, Feb. 24, against Notre Dame.  That match is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET at the IU Tennis Center.
