Feb. 20, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Hoosiers ended the weekend where they started it on Saturday, with a 7-0 sweep of an opponent. This time it was win over Cleveland State in Bloomington on Sunday afternoon.
The Indiana (9-2) duo of Leslie Hureau and Myriam Sopel started things with an 8-0 drumming over CSU's (3-4) No. 1 pair. Kayla Fujimoto teamed with Evgenia Vertesheva at No. 2 and Charlotte Martin and Katya Zapadalova played at No. 3 and each picked up 8-5 victories in those matches to give IU the doubles point.
Singles play was much of the same for the Hoosiers with Hureau winning in straight sets at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2, followed by a Fujimoto victory at No. 5, 6-3, 6-0. The team outcome was clinched by Vertesheva, playing at No. 2, as she claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win to help the Hoosiers to their ninth victory of the season.
"Our doubles play is slowly improving but it is still not at the same level as our singles," Head Coach Lin Loring said. "Our singles play was very strong again today. We started quickly and never let up."
Indiana will take to the road next weekend to battle Kentucky. That match will take place on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 10:30 a.m. ET.
