BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 53 Indiana women's tennis team cruised to two victories on Saturday at the IU Tennis Center. IU topped No. 59 Marshall, 6-1, before defeating Morehead State, 7-0.

Against Marshall, IU's Katie Klyczek and Carolyn Chupa rolled past Derya Turhan and Dana Oppinger of MU without giving up a game at No. 1 doubles, 8-0. The Thundering Herd duo of Karli Timko and Anna Pomyatinskaya at No. 2 narrowly topped Indiana's Sophie Garre and Kayla Fujimoto, 8-6. Alecia Kauss and Shannon Murdy then clinched the doubles point for the Hoosiers with a win at No. 3.

In singles, Chupa put IU up two with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Marshall's Kai Broomfield in the No. 3 match. Murdy followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 over Timko. Klyczek, ranked 102nd nationally, then clinched the team win for Indiana in the No. 1 match over Dana Oppinger, 6-2, 6-3.

"This was a solid win against a ranked opponent," head coach Lin Loring said. "It will definitely help now that the computer had taken over the college rankings. Marshall already has two road wins against Big Ten teams, Penn State and Minnesota."

Kauss (No. 4) and #84 Garre (No. 2) claimed IU's other two points with singles victories.

In the Morehead State match, IU was awarded a point out of the gate as the Eagles had five players available to play. Indiana won its two doubles matches to take the point at No. 1 and No. 2.

Chupa kept things rolling with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Briar Preston at No. 2 to put IU ahead 3-0. Murdy then earned the match win for Indiana with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Dominique-Chante Mclean of MSU. Garre (No. 1), Kim Schmider (No. 4) and Paula Gutierrez (No. 5) also were victorious for the Hoosiers.

"Morehead State is solid at the top but didn't have the depth to stay with us," Loring said. "We were able to rotate a lot of players into the lineup."

The Hoosiers will next take the courts on Saturday, March 8 when they host DePaul and IUPUI. That double-header begins at the IU Tennis Center at 11 a.m. ET.
