BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The No. 30 Indiana women's tennis team opened its Big Ten Conference schedule with a 7-0 victory over Wisconsin.

Indiana (10-3, 1-0 Big Ten) started the day with a sweep of all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. At No. 1, Alba Berdala and Laura McGaffigan defeated Wisconsin's (3-7, 0-2 Big Ten) Elizabeth Carpenter and Kaylan Caiati, 8-4. Sigrid Fischer and Cecile Perton earned an 8-6 victory over Chelsea Nusslock and Nicole Beck, 8-6, at No. 2, while Brianna Williams and Stephanie Heller won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles against Kim Roberts and Morgan Tuttle.

The Hoosiers clinched the match with wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Fischer won at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Nusslock. Williams defeated Erin Jobe, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4, while Lindsey Stuckey earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Roberts at No. 6.

"I was disappointed with how we started in doubles," head coach Lin Loring said. "I didn't expect it to be as close as it was. However, I was pleased with the way that we finished. They knew that to beat us they were going to have to win the doubles point, and I thought they would have fought harder in doubles. The match could have easily turned out much closer than it was."

Berdala won in No. 1 singles in a hard-fought three-set match with Caiati. After winning the first set 6-1, she dropped the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5). Berdala won the third set 1-0 (8) to take the match.

No. 2 singles saw McGaffigan bounce back from a loss to Carpenter in the first set, 5-7, to come back and win the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (9-7). She won the third set 1-0 (5) for the victory.

Also winning at No. 5 singles was Perton, who defeated Tuttle, 6-1, 6-1.

The Hoosiers return to action on Sunday, March 4, against Indiana State at 10:30 a.m.
