MADISION, Wis. - Indiana evened their conference record to 1-1 and improved to 9-5 overall with a 5-2 road victory over Wisconsin on Friday. The Hoosiers are set to play another match away from home on Saturday, traveling to Evanston, Ill., for a match with the top-ranked Northwestern Wildcats.

"This is a win we had to have," said Head Coach Lin Loring. "We play six away, four at home this year in the Big Ten. We have to learn to win on the road, especially since our first four Big Ten matches are on the road."

Sophomore Charlotte Martin earned her first doubles start of the spring and responded by teaming up with Alba Berdala for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles to get the ball rolling in IU's favor. Indiana's second doubles team of Sigrid Fischer and Lindsey Stuckey then guaranteed the team doubles point with their 8-6 winner over Katya Mirnova and Jessica Seyferth. With the doubles point already determined, the Badgers snuck by at No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 triumph.

"The doubles was huge because our singles wasn't as sharp as last weekend," said Loring. "We found a way to win, which was huge for us."

The Indiana advantage remained at 2-1 after the fifth and sixth doubles were concluded in quick fashion, splitting one decision each way. Stuckey was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Angela Chupa in the No. 5 singles contest.

Wisconsin kept it close through the next two completed matches as well. A badger victory at No. 1 singles momentarily pulled the team score even at 2-2 before Martin's win at second singles reincarnated a one-point edge for the Cream and Crimson.

Senior captain Sigrid Fischer sealed the deal shortly thereafter, posting a 6-1, 6-4 win over Emese Karhardo on the No. 4 singles court. Fischer improves to 10-4 on the year in dual-match singles. Indiana's other senior captain, Alba Berdala, added the cherry on top by winning a third-set `super' tiebreaker, 10-5.
