No. 31 Indiana Drops One to No. 52 Illinois

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The No. 31 Indiana women's tennis team fell on the road in Big Ten play to No. 52 Illinois on Saturday, 5-2.
In doubles, Illinois (8-6, 1-2) took the No. 3 match before Indiana's (13-5, 1-2) Carolyn Chupa and Katie Klyczekdowned Illinois' Melissa Kopinski and Alexis Casati in the No. 1 match, 8-1. But the Illini would take the doubles points with an 8-6 win at No. 2.
Illinois jumped ahead 2-0 with a win at No. 6 before IU's Shannon Murdy put the Hoosiers on the board. Murdy faced Jerricka Boone of Illinois at No. 5 and used a second-set tiebreaker to get Indiana its first point of the day, 6-3, 7-6.
Illinois went on to win the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 1 matches for its five points. Alecia Kauss picked up Indiana's second point of the day with a 6-3, 7-6 triumph in the No. 4 match over Louise Kwong.
"Illinois was a very good team and unfortunately I think we just ran out of steam," head coach Lin Loring said. "We've played three nationally ranked teams in 10 days and have been on the road for nine days. I think the schedule just caught up with us."
Indiana's next match will take place in Madison, Wis. vs. Wisconsin on Friday, March 28 at 4 p.m. ET.
