No. 41 Hoosiers Top Spartans For Third Straight Big Ten Win

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The No. 41 Indiana women's tennis team won its third consecutive Big Ten match, topping Michigan State on Saturday afternoon, 6-1.
IU started strong as the No. 1 doubles duo of Katie Klyczek and Sophie Garre topped Nicole Herzog and Katarina Lingl, 8-4. Kayla Fujimoto and Evgeniya Vertesheva clinched the doubles point for Indiana with an 8-4 victory at No. 2, before Alecia Kauss and Shannon Murdy made it a clean doubles sweep with a victory at No. 3.
Vertesheva rode her doubles momentum into singles play, completely dominating MSU's Herzog in straight sets in the No. 2 match, 6-0, 6-0. No. 99 Leslie Hureau of Indiana followed suit in the No. 1 match, topping Olga Cherova in consecutive sets, 6-1, 6-3. Kauss clinched the match for the Hoosiers with her 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Michigan State's Lingl.
Other Hoosiers picking up singles wins were Carolyn Chupa in the No. 4 spot and Klyczek playing at No. 3. Chupa topped Michaela Silesova, 6-2, 6-1, as Klyczek bested Marina Bohrer, 6-4, 7-5. In the No. 6 match, IU's Fujimoto went the distance against Dana Guentert of MSU, before falling in a super tiebreaker, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8).
The Hoosiers will welcome No. 14 Michigan on Sunday, April 1, to conclude play for the weekend. The match will begin at 11 a.m. ET at the IU Tennis Complex.
