No. 32 Hoosiers Roll Past Hawkeyes, 6-1
April 5, 2013
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The No. 32 Indiana women's tennis team took care of the Iowa Hawkeyes on the road Friday, 6-1. The win marked IU's fourth-consecutive victory.
Indiana (15-5, 4-2) took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. IU's Shannon Murdy and Alecia Kauss topped Iowa's (8-9, 1-5) Christina Harazin and Katie Zordani, 8-1, in the No. 2 spot. At No. 3, Katie Klyczek and Sophie Garre defeated Annette Dohanics and Caitlin Hindmarsh of the Hawkeyes, 8-4.
In singles, the Hoosiers took five of the six matches, all in consecutive sets. No. 111 Leslie Hureau topped No. 85 Ruth Seasborne of Iowa, 6-3, 6-2, in the top singles match. Indiana's Katie Klyczek, ranked 112th nationally, was triumphant over Shelby Talcott at No. 2, 7-6, 6-4.
"This was a great road win for us because they play really well at home," head coach Lin Loring said. "They had match points on Notre Dame when the Irish were No. 19 in the country. We struggled the first half hour of the doubles. No. 3 came back from 3-0 down to win the doubles point for us. Then we won some very close first sets in singles and never let them back in the match. It was a good win for us today."
Indiana will next take on the No. 13 Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday, April 7, at Noon ET.
