BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's tennis team snapped a six-match winning streak with a 7-0 loss to No. 2 Notre Dame on Saturday, April 7.

The No. 34 Hoosiers started off the day competitive in doubles. Alba Berdala and Laura McGaffigan were just points away from defeating the 8th-ranked Thompson twins, Catrina and Christian, at No. 1, falling 8-6. At No. 3 doubles, Erin Clark and Brianna Williams also held the score close against Cosmina Ciobanu and Katie Potts, falling 8-6.

In singles, McGaffigan played the match of the day against Christian Thompson at No. 2. After dropping the first set, 7-5, she came back to win the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5). McGaffigan fell in the final frame, 1-0 (4).

Cecile Perton also played tough against Kali Krisik at No. 5. Perton retired in the second set, down 7-5, 3-3. Lindsey Stuckey finished strong against Katie Potts at No. 6, falling 6-2, 6-4.

"They are by far the best team we've played so far this year, top to bottom," head coach Lin Loring said. "In doubles, Laura and Alba probably played the best 50 minutes of tennis they have all season. They were two points away from winning that match. Erin and Brianna also played pretty solid considering it was their second match of the year together. Overall, I'm pleased with the doubles.

"We had some competitive singles matches. Laura probably played as good as she's played all season and I was really happy to see that. I was pleased with the way that the girls found a way to make their second set closer."

The Hoosiers face another tough challenge on Sunday, April 8, as they return to Big Ten action to face No. 11 Northwestern.
