No. 32 Indiana Has Win Streak Snapped by No. 13 Nebraska
April 7, 2013
LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 32 Indiana women's tennis team had its four-match win streak snapped by No. 13 Nebraska on Sunday afternoon. The Huskers defeated the Hoosiers by a 5-2 margin to remain unbeaten in Big Ten play.
Nebraska (18-3, 7-0) started strong taking both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches right out of the gate to give the home team the doubles point.
The Huskers would then seal the team win within the first three singles matches that ended as NU won at No. 3, No. 2 and No. 1 to clinch the victory.
Sophie Garre played well for the Hoosiers (15-6, 4-3) in a tight match as she downed Nebraska's Maggy Lehmicke with a second set tiebreak, 7-5, 7-6 (4). Indiana's second point came from Jithmie Jayawickrema as she defeated Maike Zeppernick in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
"We had two problems today, first, Nebraska is very good, they are ranked 13th for a reason," head coach Lin Loring said. "Second, we opened conference play with five out of seven on the road, including the last four in a row. I felt it finally caught up with us today. Our energy tank was running low, which in turn hurt our ball tolerance."
Indiana will return home for the first time in three weeks next weekend with bouts against Minnesota and Wisconsin.
