April 14, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's tennis team finished its perfect weekend with a 7-0 win over visiting Wisconsin on Sunday. For the weekend, the Hoosiers defeated their opponents (Wisconsin and Minnesota) by a 13-1 margin.
The Hoosiers (17-6, 6-3) began things by rolling through doubles. Leslie Hureau and Carolyn Chupa defeated UW's (4-16, 2-7) Hannah Berner and Lauren Chypyha in the No 1 match, 8-3. Sophie Garre and Katie Klyczek followed that up in the No. 3 match by taking down Wisconsin's Helen Rabot and Lauren Burich, 8-3, to clinch the doubles point for IU.
In singles, Hureau continued her perfect day with a dominant performance at No. 1. She gave up just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Wisonsin's Berner. IU's Chupa finished next with a straight-set 6-2, 6-1 victory over Anastasia Tripolskaya.
Indiana's Jithmie Jayawickrema would then clinch the match for the home team as she was triumphant over Pernilla Wohlstrom, 6-1, 6-0. Other Hoosiers picking up wins on the day were Klyczek (No. 2), Alecia Kauss (No. 4) and Garre (No. 5).
"These were really solid and important wins for us this weekend," head coach Lin Loring said. "We played well at every position and we guaranteed ourselves a winning record in conference play. We've gone 6-1 since starting 0-2 in Big Ten matches and three of those wins have been on the road. I'm very please with the progress we've made the last four weeks."
The Hoosiers have just two regular season matches remaining and will next play at home on Friday, April 19 against Illinois.
