BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - No. 34 Indiana fell in its final home regular season match to No. 47 Illinois on Friday afternoon, 4-3.

In doubles, Indiana (17-7, 6-4) struck first by taking the No. 3 match as Sophie Garre and Katie Klyczek downed Illinois' (13-9, 6-4) Audrey O'Connor and Breanne Smutko, 8-5. The Illini rebounded with 25th-ranked Melissa Kopinski and Rachel White topping IU's Alecia Kauss and Shannon Murdy, 8-6, at No. 1.

The No. 2 match featured Indiana's Leslie Hureau and Jithmie Jayawickrema against Allison Falkin and Misia Kedzierski of Illinois. The match was tied at 5-5 before the Illini won the final three games to take the match, 8-5, to give Illinois the doubles point.

In singles, Illinois took a 2-0 lead as No. 102 Falkin defeated IU's Klyczek in straight sets at No. 2. Hureau, playing in the No. 1 position, then put the Hoosiers on the board as she downed No. 109 Kopinski, 6-1, 6-4.

The Fighting Illini then took another point with a victory at No. 5 as IU's Jayawickrema fell to Kedzierski, 6-3, 6-3. Indiana kept it a tight match as Alecia Kauss rolled past Smutko, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 3 spot.

Illinois then led 3-2 as the No. 4 and No. 6 matches remained on the court. No. 4 finished first and that match clinched it for the Illini as White defeated IU's Garre in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Indiana's Shannon Murdy scored final team point for the Hoosiers with a win in the No. 6 match.

"I thought we could cover up Carolyn Chupa being out of the lineup in singles and doubles, but we could not," head coach Lin Loring said. "Our depth, which has been our strength, really took a hit today. Two doubles teams and four singles players played out of position. Illinois played really well today and took advantage of our weaknesses. I'm still confident when we get healthy, we can finish strong."

The Hoosiers will hit the road to take on No. 16 Northwestern on Sunday, April 21. That match will begin at Noon ET in Evanston.
