Hoosier Classic Day Three Results
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The third and final day of the 2011 adidas Hoosier Classic concluded with singles matches. Indiana added three more singles victories with freshmen Shannon Murdy and Katie Klyczek going a perfect 3-0 on the weekend. Their classmate Carolyn Chupa also had a great weekend a runner-up finish in the second flight.
Kayla Fujimoto had a stellar day shutting out Kansas State's Sarah Snodgrass in the third flight, 6-0, 6-0. Murdy had a similar result giving up just two games in her 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Petra Chuda of KSU. Klyczek was also dominant in her straight set win over Rachel Hart of Georgia, 6-1, 6-2.
IU's Alecia Kauss fell on the wrong end of a heartbreaking match to Kate Fuller from Georgia with a final tally of 7-6 (5), 7-5. Sophie Garre also caught a bit of bad luck in a tough loss to Notre Dame's Julie Sabacinski, 6-4, 7-5. Chupa fell to No. 43 Nadja Gilchrist of Georgia in the final round of the second flight.
"I thought it was a great weekend for us," head coach Lin Loring said. "I told the team before the tournament began that our two goals were to compete hard and play smart and we did both. We can really build on this. It was a great first step."
The team will have a few weeks off, but Leslie Hureau will participate in the All-American Championships beginning on Oct. 6.
