Fischer, Perton Close Out Hoosier Classic With Doubles Victories

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior Cecile Perton and sophomore Sigrid Fischer closed out the Hoosier Classic with two doubles victories in the consolation bracket on Sunday, Oct. 8 at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The team of Perton and Fischer began the day with an 8-3 victory over Lynsey Bochenek and Angela McGahee of Murray State. They then defeated Kunigunda Dorn and Yuliana Svistun of Kansas, 8-5.
Other teams that earned doubles wins were the team of freshman Lindsey Stuckey and sophomore Stephanie Heller, who beat Lyndsey Ottosen and Adriana Alvarez of Murray State, 8-4. Sophomore Marah Calvo and freshman Erin Clark fell in their first doubles match of the afternoon, but rebounded with an 8-4 win over Tereza Prochazkova and Natasha Vieira of Kansas State.
Although the team of senior Laura McGaffigan and junior Brianna Williams reached the semifinals of the doubles bracket, they were defeated in both of their matches on Sunday. They started the day with a tough 8-6 loss against Martina Banikova and Valeriya Makarycheva, then fell 8-5 to Darya Ivanov and Naoko Ueshima.
Indiana returns to action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regionals, Oct. 19-22, hosted by Michigan State.
