    Stuckey, Fischer in Singles Finals at Western Michigan

    KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Sophomore Sigrid Fischer and freshman Lindsey Stuckey reached the finals of their respective singles flights on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Western Michigan Super Challenge.

    Fischer defeated J.J. Larson of Virginia Tech, 6-3, 6-1, in flight four. She will face Lauren Lui of Northwestern in the final round. Stuckey downed Western Michigan's Emily Dudzik in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, in flight six singles, and will play Alexis Conill of Northwestern on Sunday, Nov. 6.

    A number of players were able to gain victories in consolation matches. Sophomore Marah Calvo won two matches, earning a 6-4, 6-1, win over Milica Zivanovic of Western Michigan, and a 6-4, 6-1, victory over Katya Mirnova of Wisconsin.

    Freshman Erin Clark also defeated Zivanovic (6-3, 6-3), as well as Jennifer Taylor from Northwestern (3-6, 6-4, 6-0). Sophomore Stephanie Heller earned a 6-0, 6-1, win over Taylor, and a 6-0, 6-2, victory over Mirnova

    Senior Laura McGaffigan won 6-3, 6-0, over Texas Tech's Samantha van der Drift, while senior Cecile Perton defeated Mary Kate James of Virginia Tech, 6-3, 6-0.

     

     

    In doubles, the team of Calvo and Clark earned an 8-5 victory over James and Natalie Kretzer of Virginia Tech. Fischer and Perton won 8-1 over Elizabeth Carpenter and Kim Roberts of Wisconsin.

    The Hoosiers continue action at the Challenge through Sunday, Nov. 5.
