KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Indiana women's tennis team competed in day two of the Western Michigan Super Challenge on Saturday afternoon. The Hoosiers picked up five singles wins for the day as the doubles duo of Alecia Kauss and Shannon Murdy won the No. 3 doubles draw title.
In the top singles draw, IU's Leslie Hureau, ranked No. 50 nationally, topped No. 106 Jennifer Kellner of Notre Dame in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, to earn a spot in the championship match. In the No. 3 draw, Indiana's Katie Klyzcek had three tiebreakers in her match, but prevailed to top Manuela Valasquez of Louisville, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (5), 1-0 (9).
Sophie Garre earned a win in the No. 4 singles draw, going the distance after falling in the opening set against Notre Dame's Molly O'Koniewski, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (4). Murdy won a first set tiebreaker for a victory over Penn State's Jacqueline Zuhse, 7-6 (11), 6-2, in the No. 5 draw. Indiana's fifth win of the day came from Jithme Jayawickrema, who topped Aleeza Kanner of Marquette, 7-5, 6-3, to land in the championship round of the No. 7 draw.
Doubles play was highlighted by Kauss and Murdy's run to the No. 3 doubles draw championship as they topped Zaina Sufi and Ana Vladutu from DePaul, 8-3.
Indiana will wrap up the WMU Super Challenge on Sunday Morning.
