BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - With the spring schedule about the kick off on Jan. 18, the Indiana women's tennis team finds itself ranked No. 41 in the ITA National Rankings that were released last week. The Hoosiers host the IU Winter Invitational on Jan. 18-20.

Not only is the team ranked nationally, three IU players are ranked in the top 125 ITA Women's Singles Rankings. Katie Klyczek, a First-Team All-Big Ten player a year ago, is ranked No. 73 nationally and has the sixth-best ranking among Big Ten singles players. Klyczek had a stellar fall campaign, going 8-1 in singles play to begin the 2013-14 season.

Sophie Garre sits at No. 86 nationally in singles as she is in her final senior season with the Hoosiers. Garre had a 7-2 singles record in the fall. IU's final ranked singles player is sophomore Gabrielle Rubenstein who is tied for No. 118 in the country. She had a perfect fall slate going 7-0 to begin the year.

Indiana is coming off a season where it made an NCAA Tournament appearance for the first time in three years and finished with an 18-10 dual record. IU lost former All-American and four-time All-Big Ten player Leslie Hureau to graduation, but four singles starters from last year are back for the spring season.

Along with Klyczek and Garre, other dual starters returning include juniors Alecia Kauss and Carolyn Chupa. The Hoosiers will also be relying on junior Shannon Murdy, who was a mainstay in the doubles lineup last year during the dual schedule. After missing the entire year last season due to injury, senior Kayla Fujimoto will look to aid IU this spring.

Newcomers that will play their first spring schedule include freshmen Paula Gutierrez, Mary Beth King and Kim Schmider.
