    Indiana Begins Dual-Match Season on Sunday

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana begins its dual-match season on its home court in Bloomington on Sunday, Jan. 14., against Miami (Ohio) (2:30 p.m.) and Western Michigan (9:30 a.m.). It is the dual-match opener for all three teams. All matches this season will be played at the Varsity Tennis Center, on the indoor or outdoor courts.

    HOOSIERS RANKED IN FIRST ITA POLL OF 2007
    The Indiana Hoosiers begin the year ranked at No. 43 in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) FILA Collegiate Rankings of the season. The team ended last season ranked 44th in the poll. Indiana is one of five Big Ten teams ranked in the poll, led by No. 9 Northwestern.

    BERDALA EARNS INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
    Sophomore Alba Berdala begins the year ranked at No. 86 nationally in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. It is the first time in her career that she has been ranked. Berdala went 6-5 through the fall tournament season, which included a win over No. 37 Inga Beerman of Virginia Tech. At the ITA Midwest Regional, she defeated Kali Krisic of Notre Dame, who is one of the top incoming players for the top-10-ranked Irish.

    STUCKEY HAS STRONG FALL
    Freshman Lindsey Stuckey had a strong start to her season, finishing with a 10-5 record. She had a quality showing at the ITA Midwest Regional, winning three matches in the qualifying bracket to move into the main draw. She also won her flight at the Western Michigan Super Challenge.

    LORING ENTERS 30TH SEASON AS HOOSIER COACH
    Head coach Lin Loring, who leads the NCAA in women's tennis victories, is in his 30th season at IU. He is one of just six coaches who have coached at Indiana for 30 years or more. The other five are Sam Bell (track, 30 years), Jerry Yeagley (men's soccer, 31 years), Hobie Billingsley (diving, 31 years), James `Doc' Counsilman (swimming, 33 years), and Bob Fitch (men's golf, 33 years).

    OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
    Seniors Cecile Perton and Laura McGaffigan serve as team captains for the 2006-07 campaign.
