BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore Alecia Kauss was named Big Ten women's tennis Athlete of the Week as announced on Tuesday by the conference office. Kauss had a perfect weekend in the Adidas IU Winter Invite as she went 2-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles play. This is the first time Kauss has garnered a Big Ten weekly honor.

In singles, playing in the second flight, Kauss won in straight sets in both of her matches. She topped Bowling Green's Maddy Eccleston, 6-4, 6-2, and then took care of Rachel Stuhlman of Missouri, 7-5, 6-3.

In doubles, Kauss teamed with Shannon Murdy on day one to top BG's Eccleston and Katie Grubb, 9-8 (5). On day two, Kauss paired with teammate Katie Klyczek to go 2-0 with a win over 26th-ranked Cierra Gaytan-Leach and Elish Gabb of Missouri, 9-7, to start the day. The duo then topped Marquette's Rocio Diaz and Erin Gebes, 8-6.

On the final day of the Invite, Kauss played with Sophie Garre and they defeated Marquette's Aleeza Kanner and Gebes, 8-2, then finished the weekend with an exciting 9-8 (6) win over Mizzou's No. 26 Gaytan-Leach and Gabb.

The Indiana women's tennis team will begin dual play this weekend with a double-header on Saturday, Jan. 19 against Miami (OH) at 11 a.m. ET and then Cincinnati at 4 p.m. ET.
