BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's tennis team will host DePaul and Ball State this weekend to open its spring campaign on Saturday, Jan. 22 in the IU Tennis Center. Head Coach Lin Loring sat down with IUHOOSIERS.com to discuss the opening weekend of matches.

    Head Coach Lin Loring:

On the first couple weeks of practice back from winter break:

LL: "Everybody came back in pretty good shape. We still need to work on our doubles combinations; we are not set on those yet. Other than that, I think that we are in pretty good shape, but we will need these final days before the match to firm up our doubles teams."

On what you would like to see in the matches over the weekend:

LL: "The biggest thing, getting back to doubles, is learn a little about our combinations. We had a few players injured in the fall, so we couldn't work on some of the combinations that we would have liked to."

On the advantage of opening the season at home:

LL: "Everybody's court speed is different, so we have the advantage of playing at home. We don't have to make the adjustment to the speed of someone else's courts. DePaul did play here in the fall, so most of its players are familiar with our courts and the surface speed."

    On the opponents this weekend:

LL: "DePaul has some very talented players, so they can be a hard team to prepare for. They have an advantage of playing two quality opponents [at No. 20 Michigan and at No. 5 Northwestern] before us. We have to be ready for them because they will have already gotten their nerves out, so to speak, but it might also take something out of them. Michigan and Northwestern are two top opponents, so we may catch them a little tired. Ball State will give us some good matches in the lineup. We saw them play in fall and I feel that we can have a really good performance against them."
