Indiana Wins Both Matches in Sunday Double-Header

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's tennis team picked up back-to-back match victories on Sunday afternoon in Bloomington. The No. 45 Hoosiers (3-0) earned 7-0 wins in both matches today against Xavier (0-2) and Ball State (0-2).
To start the day, Indiana picked up a doubles point against Xavier as Kayla Fujimoto and Evgeniya Vertesheva did not give up a game playing No. 1, winning 8-0. Leslie Hureau and Katya Zapadalova won 8-3 at No. 2, and Sophie Garre and Myriam Sopel picked up a win playing in the No. 3 slot, 8-2. In singles play against the Muskateers, No. 91 Hureau, Vertesheva, Charlotte Martin, Fujimoto, Sopel and Garre all won in straight sets.
In the match against Ball State, it was much of the same for the Hoosiers. In all three doubles matches, IU only dropped four games winning 8-0, 8-1 and 8-3. Vertesheva jumped up to the No. 1 singles spot against the Cardinals and did not disappoint, winning 6-0, 6-0, over BSU's Sarah Hebble. Zapadalova dominated playing No. 2, 6-1, 6-0. Garre clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in No. 6 singles. Fujimoto, Martin, Sopel rounded out the day picking up wins in each of their matches as well.
Indiana will have a week off before returning to the court on Jan. 30 for a pair of matches against Marquette and Cincinnati. Those matches will take place in Bloomington next Sunday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
