Hoosiers Pick Up Two More Victories on Sunday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's tennis picked up another pair of match wins on Sunday over Marquette and Cincinnati. The Hoosiers (5-0) started the day with a 5-2 win over the Golden Eagles (1-2), and then in the late match swept the Bearcats (0-4) with the final tally, 7-0.
In the opening match, Indiana fell behind early as Marquette picked up the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. IU's Kayla Fujimoto and Evgeniya Vertesheva picked up the lone Hoosier doubles victory against the Golden Eagles playing No. 2.
But Indiana responded with a strong effort in singles action, beginning with No. 91 Leslie Hureau's straight set win over Olga Fischer in the No. 1 slot, 6-1, 6-2. Evgeniya Vertesheva followed with another straight set win playing No. 2, 6-2, 6-1. Fujimoto earned IU's third team point with a 6-3, 6-3 victory, then Katya Zapadalova clinched the win for the Hoosiers with her victory playing at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2.
In the afternoon match against Cincinnati, the Indiana duos of Fujimoto and Vertesheva along with Sophie Garre and Hureau picked up 9-7 victories in their respective matches. Then Zapadalova and Charlotte Martin made it a clean doubles sweep with a 8-3 win. The Hoosiers followed up the stellar play in doubles with six singles victories, all in straight sets to continue IU's perfect dual match season to this point.
No. 45 Indiana will welcome No. 7 Duke to Bloomington on Friday afternoon. That match will begin at 2 p.m. ET at the IU Tennis Center.
