Women's Tennis Receives Adam Herbert Cup
Feb. 4, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University women's tennis team is not only excelling on the court this season, but also off the court. The team was recognized at half-time of Sunday's men's basketball game, and given the Adam Herbert Cup.
The award goes to the program with the highest overall team GPA. Head Coach Lin Loring's squad posted an impressive 3.63 team GPA during the fall semester.
"As I've said several times, this award is far more important than my 700th win," said Loring. "We stress academics from day number one of the recruiting process. Our tradition of success on the court is only surpassed by our tradition of excellence in the classroom. The last 30 years our team GPA has always been in the 3.3 to 3.7 range. The University and our alumni can take pride in our performance on and off the court."
Loring was also recognized individually at the game for earning that 700th win of his coaching career on Jan. 20. He is the winningest coach in collegiate women's tennis history, and now holds a 100+ win lead over the second-place coach.
Indiana will host a pair of home matches on Sunday, Feb. 10 against Marquette and Morehead State. Those contests are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, inside the IU Tennis Complex.
