IU Women's Tennis Extends Winning Streak to Five

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Indiana swept another double-header on Saturday afternoon with wins over Cincinnati and Xavier. The Hoosiers topped the Bearcats, 6-1, to begin the day. Then in the nightcap, IU finished off the Muskateers, 7-0.
Against UC, IU (5-1) swept the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. In singles, Shannon Murdy won first at No. 5, 6-1, 6-2, over Sierra Sullivan. Sophie Garre dominated at No. 6 topping Carly Wilson, giving up just one game, 6-0, 6-1. Katie Klyczek clinched the match for the Hoosiers with her 6-1, 6-3 win over Kristina Georgieva at the No. 2 position. Evgeniya Vertesheva and Kayla Fujimoto also picked up wins playing at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively.
In the evening match with Xavier, the Hoosiers once again took the doubles point right of the gate. Then in singles, Leslie Hureau was put into the lineup at No. 1, and cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 triumph over Katie Peilman. Vertesheva won at No. 2 in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. No. 79 Carolyn Chupa of IU played at No. 3 and topped Andrea Wolf, 6-0, 6-7, 1-0 (10-4). Klyczek won at No. 4, Garre earned a win at No. 5 and Murdy was victorious at No. 6 to round out the scoring for the Hoosiers.
"This was a good road experience for the team," head coach Lin Loring said. "The courts were fast and we had to make adjustments. We didn't play our greatest tennis, but we competed well. Hopefully we will learn from this and get better."
