Atlanta, GA - The women's tennis team began its trip to Atlanta with a 7-0 victory over Georgia State.
The 55th-ranked Hoosiers (3-0) took control early with four singles victories. Jessica Anderson, playing at No. 1, won her 97th career match with a win over Nina Jansen 6-3,6-0. At No. 2, Kelly Blanch defeated Ana Kolar 6-4,6-3. Amanda Field was victorious over Mable Abraham 6-0,6-2 at No. 3. Jessica Levin finished the singles sweep with a victory over Karin Etienne 6-3,6-2. The Hoosiers picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles due to default due to Georgia State having only four players able to play.
In doubles, the Hoosiers took both matches. Anderson and Blanch, playing at No. 1, defeated Jansen and Abraham 8-6. At No. 2, Levin and Becky Wallihan defeated Kolar and Etienne 6-3,6-2.
Assistant Coach Ramiro Azcui said, "Everybody played very well. It was a good way to get us ready for tomorrow's match against Georgia Tech. Tomorrow will be a huge test for our team. Even though the only had four players, Georgia State played really hard. Our players fought hard at the beginning and then we were too strong for the other team."
The Hoosiers will finish their road trip in Atlanta, as they will take
on 49th-ranked Georgia Tech afternoon.
