Hoosiers Power Past RedHawks and Cardinals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's tennis made it seven wins in a row with two more victories on Saturday afternoon at the IU Tennis Center. The Hoosiers topped Miami (OH), 5-2, in the day's opening match. IU then topped Ball State, 7-0, to end the afternoon.
Against Miami (OH) (2-5), Indiana (7-1) cruised at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, winning both of those matches by an 8-1 margin to earn the first team point right out of the gate. At No. 1, Carolyn Chupa and Katie Klyczek trailed 5-3 early, but rallied for the win, 8-6, to sweep the doubles portion of the match for IU.
In singles, Alecia Kauss started things off at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Miami's Christine Guerrazzi. Leslie Hureu picked up IU's third point with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Riekie Honiball at No. 1. The RedHawks then took a point as Stephanie Danesis topped IU's Chupa in three sets, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3. Then at No. 4, Klyczek clinched the match for the Hoosiers with a 7-6, 6-3 straight-set victory over Christiana Raymond. Kayla Fujimoto later picked up IU's fifth team point with a win at No. 6.
In the Ball State match, IU again dominated in doubles and did not give up more than three games in any of the three matches. Singles was much of the same, as Evgeniya Vertesheva started things off at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Fujimoto followed at No. 4, giving up just one game for the victory, 6-0, 6-1, over BSU's Sarah Hebble. Sophie Garre played at No. 6 and won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, to clinch the match for Indiana. Klyczek, playing in the No. 2 position, earned a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Kristel Sanders of Ball State. Kauss and Murdy rounded out the Hoosier scoring with wins at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively.
Indiana will return to the court on Friday, Feb. 17, to take on No. 17 Tennessee. That match will take place at the IU Tennis Center in Bloomington, beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET.
