LEXINGTON, KY. - The Indiana women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 defeat at the hands of 30th-ranked Kentucky in Lexington on Wednesday.
The Hoosiers (5-3 overall) claimed a win at number two doubles, where Linda Tran and Dominika Walterova defeated Kentucky's Shannon Stough and Shannon Stafford, 8-2. The Wildcats (5-4 overall) picked up doubles wins and one and three to claim the doubles point.
Playing without Karie Schlukebir and J.J. Levin, Indiana lost all six singles matches in straight sets, with only Tran advancing to a tie-breaker, falling to Sarah Witten, 6-2, 7-6 (4) at the number one spot. Witten entered the match as the No. 37 singles player in the nation.
The Hoosiers open their Big Ten schedule this weekend when they host No. 33 Wisconsin and No. 11 Northwestern at the IU Tennis Center. Saturday's match against the Badgers is set to start at 10 a.m., as is Sunday's tilt with the Wildcats.
