BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 49 Indiana University women's tennis team (7-1) slows down a bit this weekend, playing just one match after four consecutive two-match weekends to start the spring season. Their competition for Saturday's 11 a.m. match is challenging, however, as the No. 37 Blue Demons of DePaul (5-1) come to town.

    SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Head Coach Mark Ardizzone is the winningest coach in DePaul women's tennis history and has his Blue Demons ranked in the top-40 nationally.

Just like the Hoosiers, DePaul spent last weekend in the state of North Carolina. They, too, are coming off a win at Wake Forest. Overall, the Blue Demons are 5-1 on the season with their lone defeat coming to then-No. 6 Notre Dame.

The DePaul doubles tandem of Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic is considered one of the best that the country has to offer, ranked No. 9 in the ITA National Doubles Rankings.

    CAREER MILESTONES REACHED
In a season that began with Lin Loring coaching the 1,000th match of his career, several of the Hoosier players have also either reached or are approaching career milestones of their own.

Myriam Sopel surpassed the century mark in total career wins posting 107 victories heading into the weekend. Classmate Katya Zapadalova is hot on her trail and about to crack 100 as well with her 93 total wins. Lindsey Stuckey recently notched win No. 150 of her career, tops on the team.

    OFF TO A QUICK START
January was about as good an opening month as a team could have as the Hoosiers went 6-0 to start the 2010 spring season.

It was not only the undefeated record that was impressive, but also how Indiana cruised to that flawless mark. The Hoosiers won .889 percent of the singles matches (32-of-36) while picking up 14 doubles victories versus just four losses.

Indiana's two newest additions, Leslie Hureau and Evgeniya Vertesheva, instantly made their presence known with 6-0 singles records during the first month of the year.

Vertesheva paired with Lindsey Stuckey for a 6-0 January on the doubles court as well. Myriam Sopel joined her teammates with a 6-0 singles record of her own.
