    Hoosiers Host Maryland, Marquette This Weekend

    On Tap...The women's tennis team returns home this weekend for a pair of matches. On Friday, the Hoosiers will play Maryland at 3 p.m. The Hoosiers hold an all-time 1-0 series lead over the Terrapins. On Sunday, Indiana will face Marquette at 10 a.m. Last year, Indiana was defeated by Marquette 5-4, but Indiana holds the all-time series 4-1.

    Scouting Maryland...Maryland comes into this match with a 3-2 record. The Terrapins are currently ranked 44th in the Wingsbank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings. Maryland is coming off two losses last weekend to #17 Notre Dame 9-0 and #45 Illinois 6-3. Their wins have come against Missouri, West Virginia and Georgetown. Maryland is led by freshmen Delila Causevic and Jessica Johnson.

    Scouting Marquette...Marquette comes into this weekend with a 4-2 record. The Golden Eagles are currently ranked 36th in Wingsbank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings. Last weekend, Marquette split its matches with a win over Wisconsin 7-2 and a loss against #32 Iowa 8-1. The Golden Eagles are lead by seniors Sara Fernandez and Elisa Penalvo and junior Anna Pavlovic.

    Recapping The Atlanta Trip...The Hoosiers traveled to Atlanta two weekends ago and their split their two matches. Indiana defeated Georgia State 7-0 by taking all nine matches. The Hoosiers then lost a close match to #47 Georgia Tech 6-3 in which the women dropped two three-set matches and two matches that went to tiebreakers.

    In The Rankings...The women's tennis team remains the 55th ranked team nationally and 7th in the Midwest Region...Senior Jessica Anderson and Junior Kelly Blanch moved up 11 spots nationally to become the 31st ranked doubles team. They are also ranked 8th in the region...Blanch moved into the rankings in singles, entering at #93. Blanch is also ranked #20 in the Midwest Region, while Anderson is ranked 8th.

    Going For 100...With a singles victories over Georgia State, Jessica Anderson now has 97 victories for her career. Anderson is 12-4 on the young season.

    Rebounding With A Vengeance...After posting an 8-29 singles record last year, junior Kelly Blanch has bounced back to have an outstanding year so far. Blanch has gone 3-1 in dual matches this season and now is ranked 93rd in the recent Wingsbank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings. She has an overall record of 11-3.

    Fabulous Freshman...Jessica Levin has began her career at Indiana University with 4-0 dual record and a 12-7 overall record going into the weekend . Playing at the No. 5 singles position, she posted the Hoosiers only singles victory in a loss to Georgia Tech on February 6. Levin has also proved to be a solid doubles competitor by posting an overall 14-5 record.

    Doubles Play...The Hoosiers three doubles teams have posted a 10-1 record in the four matches this season. The No. 1 team of Jessica Anderson and Kelly Blanch is 4-0. Jessica Levin and Becky Wallihan are 3-1 at No. 2 and Zahra Ahamed and Amanda Field are 3-0 at No. 3.

    Coach Lin Loring...is currently in his 22nd season as the Head Coach of the Hoosiers women's tennis team. In his 22 season's he has compiled a remarkable overall record of 534-146, while accumulating a 258-30 record against Big Ten opponents. The four-time Big Ten Coach -of the-Year and two-time National Coach-of-the -Year, has compiled an 576-162 overall record in his 27 year coaching career. Prior to Indiana, coach Loring spent four-years as the Head Coach of UC-Santa Barbara.

    SINGLES BIOS

    ZAHRA AHAMED - is currently 3-0 in dual matches this season...won 70th career singles match against Erica Echko of Miami of Ohio 6-2,6-3on January 22, 1999...finished fall with a 3-3 singles record...went 2-1 at the ITA Midwest Region Championships.

    JESSICA ANDERSON - is currently 3-1 in dual matches this season...has 97 career singles wins...won 90th career match against Katja Kuehner of Middle Tennessee State 6-2,7-5 on October 16, 1999...finished fall with a 9-3 record...went 2-1 at the ITA Midwest Region Championships...started tournament season with a seven match win streak.

    NICKI BARNET - joined team in January...has not participated in any singles matches to date.

    KELLY BLANCH - is currently 3-1 in dual matches this season...finished fall with a 8-2 record...went 1-1 at the ITA Midwest Region Championships...started tournament season with a five match win streak.

    AMANDA FIELD - is currently 3-1 in dual matches this season...finished fall with a 5-6 record...won three matches in the qualifying round at the ITA Midwest Region Championships, before losing in the main draw.

    JENNIFER HSIA - finished fall with a 9-3 record...lost in opening round of qualifying at the ITA Midwest Championships, before winning her consolation match.

    IRINA KHARUN - joined team in January...has not participated in any singles matches to date.

    JESSICA LEVIN - is currently on a four match winning streak to give her a 4-0 record in dual matches this season...finished fall with a 8-7 record...won three matches in the qualifying round at the ITA Midwest Region Championships, before losing in the second round of the main draw.

    ANN POOSUTHASEE - is currently 1-0 in dual matches this season...finished fall with a 1-6 record.

    BECKY WALLIHAN - is currently 1-1 in dual matches this season...finished fall with a 5-1 record.

    DOUBLES BIOS

    ANDERSON/BLANCH - are currently ranked 42nd in the nation...have begun the dual season with a 4-0 record...finished fall with a 9-2 record...reached the semifinals of the ITA Midwest Region Championships (went 3-1 during the tournament).

    LEVIN/WALLIHAN - are currently 3-1 in dual matches this season...did not play in tournament matches as a team.
