Bloomington, IN - The #55 Indiana dominated #44 Maryland in a 8-1 victory today. The Hoosiers had the matched wrapped up before the doubles stepped on the court, as they won five of the six singles matches.
The Hoosiers (4-1) opened the day with four straight-set singles victories. At No. 3, Zahra Ahamed posted a victory over Stacy Walkowitz 6-2,6-1. At No. 4, Jessica Levin improved to 5-0 in the dual season with a victory over Catherine Valatin 6-1,6-4. At No. 1, Jessica Anderson clinched the Hoosiers victory with a win over Delila Cansevic 6-3,6-1. Amanda Field, playing at the No. 5 position, defeated Chrissie Terrill 6-2,6-4. 93rd-ranked Kelly Blanch was defeated in a close match by Jessica Johnson 7-6,6-2 at the No. 2 position.
The Hoosiers were strong in doubles taking both matches. At No. 1, the 31st-ranked team of Anderson and Blanch battled back to defeat Causevic and Johnson 8-6. At No. 2, Levin and Becky Wallihan were victorious over Terrill and Valantin 8-5.
Indiana picked up wins at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles due to default.
Head Coach Lin Loring said, "This was a very good match for us. We played extremely well. It was probably one of the best team matches we played in the last year and a half. We are going to need to see an effort like today if we are going to beat Marquette on Sunday."
The Hoosiers will return to action on Sunday as they will take on #36
Marquette at 10 a.m. The match will be played at the IU Tennis Center.
