BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University women's tennis team (7-2) welcomes in Kentucky (1-6) and No. 10 Tennessee (5-2) this weekend for a pair of home matches inside the IU Tennis Center.

Saturday's match against the UK Wildcats is set for an 11 a.m. start while the contest versus Tennessee has been moved up to 10:30 a.m. on Sunday as both the men's and women's teams will be competing simultaneously (the men's team plays Harvard).

    MOVING ON UP
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its latest nationally rankings on Thursday (Feb. 18) and the Hoosiers moved up eight spots this week.

With a dual-match record of 7-2, the Hoosiers now have their highest ranking of the 2009-10 season at No. 37 in the country.

    SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Kentucky and Tennessee are both ranked nationally in the top-60, coming in at #54 and #10, respecively.

Individually, two Lady Vols can be found in the latest ITA singles rankings, including Catilin Whoriskey, the reigning SEC Player of the Week, slotted seventh in the country. Her teammate, Maria Sorbello is also one of the best in the land, ranked 38th. Sorbello took home the conference's weekly accolade back on Feb. 3.

In addition, Whoriskey pairs with Natalie Pluskota to form the top-ranked doubles duo. They are 19-1 on the year heading into the weekend. The UT tandem of Rosalia Alda and Zsofia Zubor can also be found in the rankings, tabbed as the 20th-best doubles team in the land.

    CHARLOTTE'S WEB
Charlotte Martin made her return to the line-up last week after battling an injury in the early goings of the spring season. Martin instantly bolsters the IU firepower, playing No. 2 singles for the majority of last season.

GETTING IT DONE IN THE CLASSROOM
The women's tennis program continues to shine not only on the court, but inside the classroom as well. Head Coach Lin Loring's Hoosiers have won the Adam Herbert Cup, given to the IU team with the highest team grade point average, for the last five semesters. Women's tennis' run began in the fall of of 2007 and has extended to the fall semester `09.

"Ramiro and I are really proud of the team," said Coach Loring after the fifth consecutive honor. "The team has different members each year, but we've ben able to keep the streak going. We always stress academics and I think it really shows."

Seven of eight Hoosiers earned GPAs of 3.0 or better last semester. In spring of 2009, every single eligible Hoosier women's tennis player was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team (freshman are not eligible).

The team was recognized in front of a sell-out crowd during the footbal game against Purdue this past fall (above), announcing the program's fourth straight Herbert Cup award. They will be honored at the men's basketball game on Mar. 6 for their fifth GPA title.
