ON TAP: Indiana (5-3) begin their Big Ten season this weekend as they travel to Minnesota for a 5 p.m. match on Saturday night. Minnesota, ranked 47th in the nation, comes into the match with a 5-3 overall record and a 1-0 record in the Big Ten, as they defeated Illinois last weekend. The Hoosiers will try to avenge last years lost to Minnesota.
TOUGH LOSSES: The Hoosiers are coming off a tough weekend, inwhich they lost a pair of 5-4 matches. On Friday, they lost to Marquette and on Sunday they lost to Georgia Tech.
FABULOUS FRESHMEN: A big key to the Hoosiers early seaon success as been the play of their three freshmen. Going into this weekend they have a combined 12-3 singles record and a 10-1 doubles record. Karie Schlukebir leads the team with a dual singles match record of 5-1. She has a 13-7 record overall. In doubles, she has posted a team leading 5-0 dual record (13-6 overall. Amanda Field, playing at the No. 4 singles position, has posted a 4-3 dual record (11-7 overall). In doubles, she has a team leading 18-6 overall record, with a 5-2 record so far in dual matches. Ann Poosuthasee, has seen limited action in dual matches this winter, but has a 16-5 overall singles record, while posting a 2-1 record in her dual matches.
POTPOURRI: After last weekend the Hoosiers now have seven of their nine players with 10 or more wins in singles...Jessica Anderson leads the team with a 18-5 singles record, including 10 out of her last 12...Anderson, along with Amanda Field have the team lead in doubles victories with 18...Since being paired together in the beginning of the dual season, Zahra Ahamed and Karie Schlukebir have been a perfect 5-0 in doubles...Ana Ceretto has posted a win in 9 of her last 11 matches...Becky Wallihan has bounced back from offseason shoulder surgery to post a 5-2 doubles mark, along with Kelly Blanch.
HEAD COACH LIN LORING... is entering his 22nd season as the Head Coach of the Hoosiers Women's Tennis team. In his 21 seasons, he has compiled a remarkable overall record of 252-130, while accumulating a 252-23 record against Big Ten opponents. The 4 time Big Ten Coach-of-the-Year and the 2 time National Coach-of -the-Year, has compiled a 563-147 overall record in his 25 year coaching career. Prior to Indiana, coach Loring had a 4 year stint as head coach at UC-Santa Barbara.
ON THE HORIZON: The Hoosiers will then face ACC opponent North Carolina on March 7 in Bloomington.
