Bloomington, IN - Senior Jessica Anderson won her 100th career singles match as the #43 Hoosiers (6-1, 1-0) opened the Big Ten season today win a victory over #49 Wisconsin (3-5, 0-1) 5-2 today.
Anderson became the 16th woman to reach 100 singles victories with a three-set win over April Gabler 6-4,6-7,6-1.
Indiana began the day with a doubles sweep to take the doubles point. At No. 3, Amanda Field and Jennifer Hsia defeated Dena Baritot and Shana McElroy 8-4. Jessica Levin and Becky Wallihan captured the doubles point with a win over Katie Dougherty and Linde Mues 8-5 at No. 2. Anderson and Kelly Blanch finished the sweep with a victory over Gabler and Lara Vojnov 8-6.
The Hoosiers took four out of the six singles matches. At No. 4, Levin improved her dual record to 7-0 with a win over Mues 6-2,6-0. Blanch, playing at the No. 2 position, defeated Rauh 6-3,6-3. Wallihan clinched the win for the Hoosiers with a victory over Vojnov 6-2,7-5.
Head Coach Lin Loring said, "It was a good win for us. Both teams were pretty evenly matched. They beat us last year, so it was good to reverse it with a win today. We expect a tough match tomorrow against Iowa."
Indiana will continue its Big Ten season tomorrow with a match against
Iowa at 10 a.m.
