    Hoosiers Face Tough Test Against No. 18 Tennessee

    On Tap...The women's tennis team will face a tough test this weekend with a home match on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Tennessee. The Hoosiers (7-1, 2-0) fell to the Lady Vols 7-2 in Knoxville, Tennessee last year. Indiana holds the series lead with an 11-7 record.

    Scouting Tennessee...The 18th-ranked Lady Vols come into the match with a 7-5 record. The Lady Vols split their matches last weekend by defeating #67 Alabama 7-2 and losing to #3 Georgia 8-1. Tennessee has posted a 6-5 record against teams ranked in the top 70 nationally, including a record of 2-5 against teams ranked in the top 30. Alison Ojeda is Tennessee top player in singles and is currently ranked 59th in the ITA rankings. Head Coach Lin Loring said, "Tennessee will be the best team that we played so far. They are ranked 18th in the country and we always have a good match against them. We will probably play them outdoors, so that will give them a huge advantage. Playing outdoors is something that we need to do, to get ready for the Big Ten season. This match will make us that much tougher for our remaining Big Ten matches."

    Big Ten Sweep...The Hoosiers began the Big Ten season this past weekend with wins over 49th-ranked Wisconsin 5-2 and 32nd-ranked Iowa 5-2. In both matches, the Hoosiers took all three doubles matches and won four of the six singles matches.

    In The Rankings...The women's tennis team moves up six positions in the recent ITA rankings to be currently ranked at 38...the Hoosiers are ranked 7th in the Midwest Region...Senior Jessica Anderson and Junior Kelly Blanch are ranked 31st nationally in doubles team. They are also ranked 8th in the region...Blanch is ranked #20 in the Midwest Region, while Anderson is ranked 8th.

    Against Ranked Opponents...Indiana has faced a ranked opponent in each of its last five matches. During that span, the Hoosiers have posted a record of 4-1 with the only loss coming in a close match against Georgia Tech. Indiana is currently on a four-match winning streak against ranked opponents and has beaten three teams (Maryland, Marquette and Iowa) ranked higher at the time that the match was played.

    Anderson Hits Century Mark...Senior Jessica Anderson posted her 100th career singles victory last Saturdaywith a win over Wisconsin's April Gabler 6-4,6-7,6-1. She then posted a win over Iowa's Shera Wiegler on Sunday and currently has a 16-4 record on the season. Anderson is currently 16th on the Hoosiers' all-time singles winning list with a 101 victories and one win away from tying Bev Ramser for 15th.

    Milestone...Senior Becky Wallihan won her 40th career doubles match on Sunday in the match against Iowa.

    Rebounding With A Vengeance...After posting an 8-29 singles record last year, junior Kelly Blanch has bounced back to have an outstanding year so far. Blanch has gone 5-3 in dual matches this season and an overall record of 13-5

    Fabulous Freshman...Jessica Levin has began her career at Indiana University with 8-0 dual record and a 16-7 overall record going into the weekend. She is currently on a eight match winning streak and has posted a Levin has also proved to be a solid doubles competitor by posting an overall 18-5 record.

    Super Sophomore...Amanda Field has provided the Hoosiers with a solid No. 5 singles position this year. She has posted a 3-1 record during the last four matches at that position. She has also seen time at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions and has posted an overall record of 6-2 in dual matches.

    Doubles Play...The Hoosiers three doubles teams have posted a 20-2 record in the six matches this season. The No. 1 team of Jessica Anderson and Kelly Blanch is 7-1. Jessica Levin and Becky Wallihan are 7-1 at No. 2. Amanda Field has gone 6-0 at No. 3, posting a 3-0 record with Zahra Ahamed and a 3-0 record with Jennifer Hsia.

    Head Coach Lin Loring...is currently in his 22nd season as the Head Coach of the Hoosiers women's tennis team. In his 22 season's he has compiled a remarkable overall record of 537-146, while accumulating a 260-30 record against Big Ten opponents. The four-time Big Ten Coach -of the-Year and two-time National Coach-of-the -Year, has compiled a 579-162 overall record in his 27 year coaching career. Prior to Indiana, coach Loring spent four-years as the Head Coach of UC-Santa Barbara.

    ZAHRA AHAMED - is currently 3-4 in dual matches this season...won 70th career singles match against Erica Echko of Miami of Ohio on January 22...finished fall with a 3-3 singles record...went 2-1 at the ITA Midwest Region Championships.

    JESSICA ANDERSON - is currently 7-1 in dual matches this season...currently playing at the No. 1 position...has 101 career singles wins...won 100th career match against Wisconsin's April Gabler 6-4,6-7,6-1 on February 26, 2000...won 90th career match against Katja Kuehner of Middle Tennessee State 6-2,7-5 on October 16, 1999...finished fall with a 9-3 record...went 2-1 at the ITA Midwest Region Championships...started tournament season with a seven match win streak.

    NICKI BARNET - joined team in January...has posted a 2-0 record in dual singles match in extra matches.

    KELLY BLANCH - is currently 5-3 in dual matches this season...currently playing at the No. 2 position...finished fall with a 8-2 record...went 1-1 at the ITA Midwest Region Championships...started tournament season with a five match win streak.

    AMANDA FIELD - is currently 5-1 in dual matches this season...currently playing at the No. 5 position...won her 30th career match against Alexandra Stankovic of Marquette on February 20...finished fall with a 5-6 record...won three matches in the qualifying round at the ITA Midwest Region Championships, before losing in the main draw.

    JENNIFER HSIA - finished fall with a 9-3 record...lost in opening round of qualifying at the ITA Midwest Championships, before winning her consolation match.

    IRINA KHARUN - joined team in January...has not participated in any singles matches to date.

    JESSICA LEVIN - is currently on a eight-match winning streak to give her an 8-0 record in dual matches this season...currently playing at the No. 4 position...finished fall with a 8-7 record...won three matches in the qualifying round at the ITA Midwest Region Championships, before losing in the second round of the main draw.

    ANN POOSUTHASEE - is currently 4-0 in dual matches this season...finished fall with a 1-6 record.

    BECKY WALLIHAN - is currently 4-1 in dual matches this season...currently playing at the No. 6 position...won 30th career singles match against Christine DiMasi of Maquette on February 20...finished fall with a 5-1 record.

    ANDERSON/BLANCH - are currently ranked 39th in the nation...have begun the dual season with a 7-1 record...currently playing at the No. 1 position...finished fall with a 9-2 record...reached the semifinals of the ITA Midwest Region Championships (went 3-1 during the tournament).

    LEVIN/WALLIHAN - are currently 7-1 in dual matches this season...currently playing at the No. 2 position...did not play in tournament matches as a team.
