Women's Tennis Big Ten Opener at Ohio State
March 7, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 33 Indiana University women's tennis team (10-3, 0-0) begins the conference slate on Saturday morning at No. 31 Ohio State (10-2, 0-0). The Big Ten dual match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST. Live match updates will be available via the women's tennis page on iuhoosiers.com.
Indiana will compete in the Buckeyes' brand new facility, the OSU Varsity Tennis Center. Ohio State's doubles teams have been especially tough to beat at home this season, going 21-0 in the first seven home contests.
"We will have to play well to beat Ohio State," said Head Coach Lin Loring. "This is their first Big Ten match in their new facility, so they are expecting a huge crowd. It should be a great atmosphere and the biggest crowd we have played in front of all season."
The Hoosiers enter the match with a 10-3 record, with all three losses coming against Top-25 programs. Indiana has historically had much success against the Buckeyes, leading the all-time series 29-5. Last season was no different as IU won the doubles points and five singles matches for a 6-1 victory in Bloomington. The Hoosiers last loss to Ohio State came in 2003.
The Cream and Crimson will jump back into the non-conference slate next week during spring break and head to the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational.
"The Florida Gulf Coast Invitational will give us a chance to train outdoors and play some matches," said Loring. "It will be a non-scoring event. It will be an excellent opportunity for us to play outside and get ready for the rest of the Big Ten season."
