On Tap: The Hoosiers (6-6 overall, 2-1 Big Ten) will continue their Big Ten season this weekend with a pair of matches against Big Ten opponents. On Saturday, they welcome Ohio State to Bloomington for a 10:00 a.m. match. Last year, the Hoosiers defeated Ohio State 5-2 at home, picking up four of the singles matches and the doubles point. On Sunday, Penn State (2-7, 0-3) comes to town for a 10 a.m. match. Last year, the Hoosiers picked up two wins against Penn State. They defeated them 6-1 in University Park, PA and then won 5-0 in the Big Ten tournament.
Last Match: After snapping a four match losing streak to Purdue, the Hoosiers fell to South Florida last Thursday 6-3 in Tampa, FL. Jessica Anderson and Amanda Field picked up the singles wins for the Hoosiers, while the team of Zahra Ahamed and Ana Ceretto picked up the doubles win.
Junior Play: Without a senior on the team this year, the Hoosiers have relied on leadership from their three juniors; Zahra Ahamed, Jessica Anderson and Becky Wallihan. Anderson leads the team in singles with an 20-7 overall record (7-4 in dual). Anderson is also the team leader with a 21-7 doubles record (8-3 in dual). Ahamed has bounced back from a tough start to the year, posting a 6-6 record in dual matches (12-14 overall) and a 10-1 dual doubles record (19-7 overall). Becky Wallihan, injured for the fall season, has posted a 5-5 doubles record.
Potpourri: The Hoosiers have seven of their nine players with 10 or more singles wins...Freshman Amanda Field has been impressive in dual matches this spring posting a 7-4 and is now 14-8 in singles for the year......Ana Ceretto has posted a win in 10 of her last 15 matches, and has a 17-9 overall record...Wallihan has bounced back from offseason shoulder surgery to post a 5-5 doubles mark.
Head Coach Lin Loring...is entering his 22nd season as the Head Coach of the Hoosiers Women's Tennis team. In his 21 seasons, he has compiled a remarkable overall record of 526-135, while accumulating a 252-24 record against Big Ten opponents. The 4 time Big Ten Coach-of-the-Year and the 2 time National Coach-of -the-Year, has compiled a 568-152 overall record in his 26-year coaching career. Prior to Indiana, coach Loring had a 4 year stint as head coach at UC-Santa Barbara.
On The Horizon: The Hoosiers will be on the road next weekend for matches against #20 Tennessee and #18 Kenucky. They will face Tennessee on April 3 and Kentucky on April 4. Both matches will start at 11 a.m.
