Home Match Friday, At Notre Dame Sunday For Women's Tennis
March 27, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University women's tennis team is scheduled to play two matches this weekend, one at home and one on the road. First, is a Friday afternoon contest with Michigan State at 3 p.m. inside the IU Tennis Complex, followed by a road match at Notre Dame on Sunday.
Indiana (14-3, 3-0 Big Ten) is back in the top-25 this week, ranking #25 nationally in the latest ITA rankings. Michigan State (9-6, 1-1) is coming off a 6-1 win over #35 Washington on Wednesday and are led by second-year head coach Erica Perkins.
"Michigan State just beat Washington badly, by the score of 6-1," said Head Coach Lin Loring. "The PAC 10 is arguably the the best conference in the country, so that is a great win. Although they are not ranked, we knew MSU was a dangerous team and it was just a matter of time before they put it all together. We will need to be ready because they are playing with confidence.'
The Fighting Irish enter the weekend as the 19th-ranked squad with a 12-7 overall record and 2-0 mark in the Big East. Notre Dame will be very familiar with the Big Ten by season's end with seven conference foes on their docket. Thus far, the Irish are 3-1 versus the Big Ten by defeating Illinois, Ohio State, Wisconsin and dropping a 4-3 decision at Michigan.
"Notre Dame is Notre Dame," said Loring. "They are always very good. If we want to beat them on their courts we will have to play our best match of the year. We are looking forward to the match, we just need to get everyone back in the line-up."
Live match updates will be available for both contests via the women's tennis schedule page on IUHoosiers.com.
