Columbus, Ohio- The Indiana women's tennis team fell at No. 35 Ohio State, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon. The Hoosiers dropped their third match in a row and fell to 8-10 on the season and 0-4 in the Big Ten.
The Hoosiers were unable to win the doubles point for the second straight match as the Buckeyes swept through all three spots. Ohio State won at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, 8-3, and 8-1 at the No. 3 position. Junior Linda Tran and sophomore Dominika Walterova had their eight-match winning streak snapped at the No. 2 position as they fell to Erica Fisk and Jackie Leskovar. The duo is now 8-2 on the season.
Ohio State was able to claim four of the six singles spots on their way to victory. The Buckeyes won the No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
At the No. 1 singles position, Tran had her four-match winning streak snapped in straight sets. 59th ranked Sadhaf Pervez of Ohio State won her 13th straight downing Tran, 6-2, 6-0. Tran is now 11-12 on the season.
Indiana's first point of the afternoon came from freshman Sarah Batty. She downed Fisk at the No. 2 singles spot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. The win snapped a three-match losing streak for Batty as she improved to 16-15 on the year. The victory was also Batty's first career Big Ten win.
With the match's outcome already determined, junior Martina Grimm won her second straight match in come from behind fashion. She downed Lindsay Williams in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (4). The victory boosted Grimm's season record to 21-11 and evened her Big Ten mark at 2-2.
The Hoosiers will return home for a five-match home stand, including three next week. Indiana will take on No. 48 Notre Dame on Thursday, April 3. Michigan State will come to Bloomington on Saturday, April 5, followed by No. 33 Michigan on Sunday, April 6.
