BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's tennis player Sigrid Fischer has been named the IU Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 1. The award is selected weekly by the IUHOOSIERS.com staff.
Fisher helped lead Indiana to a 5-2 victory over Michigan State. She defeated Pascale Schnitzer in singles in a tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) at No. 3 singles, and teamed with Cecile Perton at No. 2 doubles to earn a 8-6 win over Schnitzer and Ana Milosavljevic.
The Eisenberg, Germany native has helped lead Indiana to a 4-0 conference record this season.
Other Indiana athletes who had standout weeks include Courtney Johnson (women's track), Jordan Kyle (men's track), Sarah Padove (softball), rowing's first varsity eight, and Tyler Tufts (baseball).
Sr. - Columbus, Ohio - Brookhaven
Johnson finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 13.68, which is a regional qualifying mark.
So. - Fishers, Ind. - Hamilton Southeastern
Kyle finished second in the 5,000 meter run at the Stanford Invitational. His time of 14:03.83 was a personal best and a regional qualifying time.
Jr. - Dublin, Ireland - Belvedere
McLoughlin is on a five match winning streak in singles, which continued with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 over Adam Monich against Michigan State. He has also won five of his last six doubles matches with Thomas Richter, downing Nick Rinks and John Allare, 8-6, in Indiana's 5-2 victory over Michigan State.

Padove had an impressive return to the Hoosier lineup after missing two weeks with a broken nose, hitting .556 in four games. Padove made a pinch-hit appearance in the bottom of the seventh against Iowa on Friday, singling to left to start a rally. Padove's performance earned her the start at second base in the Hoosiers' next contest, and she responded with another single to left in her first at-bat against the Hawkeyes on Saturday. Against Illinois on Sunday, Padove went 2-for-2 with a double in game one and followed that up with a 1-for-3 performance with a walk in game two. For the week, she was 9-for-5 with a double and a walk.
Rowing First Varsity Eight
Indiana's first varsity eight of Betsy Hibbard (cox), Jenn Maslanka (stroke), Jamie Spoto, Ashley Johnson, Laura Stebbins, Courtney Valerious, Kourtney Beckham, Kiri Crane and Kelsey Kapral (bow) swept Cincinnati, Dayton and Eastern Michigan on Saturday, April 1, topping the second-place Bearcats by an impressive 13 seconds.
P - SO - Sagamore Hills, Ohio - Nordonia
Tufts pitched 8 2/3 innings in a 2-1 victory over Michigan State on Friday. He allowed 15 hits in the game, but allowed just one Spartan runner to score as he struck out three and walked none. Tufts also made his first career appearance in left field in the series finale on Sunday, going 2-for-3 with a run and a walk in the contest.
