Women's Tennis Ventures to Penn State, Ohio State
April 9, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Hoosiers hit the road this weekend for a pair of Big Ten matches. Indiana will start it off with a 4 p.m. showdown against the Nittany Lions of Penn State on Friday (Apr. 10) before coming back west and making a stop in Columbus for an 11 a.m. match against Ohio State.
Indiana (12-7, 4-2) jumped up to No. 38 in this week's national rankings after sweeping two matches over the weekend. IU is on a three-match winning streak in which they've won each contest by a 4-3 tally. On the season, Indiana is 7-1 in matches with a 4-3 final score.
Penn State enters the weekend 5-13 overall and 2-4 in the conference. Last season, the Hoosiers topped the Lions, 5-2. 2009 marks the second straight year that IU has to travel to both Penn State and Ohio State for their regular season match-ups.
Sunday's match in Columbus will be played at either the Stickney Tennis Center (outdoors) or the OSU Varsity Tennis Center (indoors). The Hoosiers are ranked 43rd nationally and are owners of a 12-7 overall mark, 5-1 in conference play. The weather is expected to be a lot better than last year's trip to Ohio State. After picking up a 4-3 victory over the Buckeyes, Indiana then had to bus back to Bloomington amidst a snow storm, a trek that took them several hours longer than expected due to the heavy snowfall.
