April 15, 2000 Women's Tennis Defeats Penn State 5-2
University Park, Penn. - The women's tennis team defeated Penn State 5-2 today. The Hoosiers (13-8) improved their record in the Big Ten to 6-2, while the Nittany Lions (7-7) dropped to 0-7.
The 47th-ranked Hoosiers by taking all three doubles matches. At No. 1, Jessica Anderson and Kelly Blanch defeated Pilar Montgomery and Alison Barnett 9-7. At No. 2, Jessica Levin and Becky Wallihan were victorious in their match against Rebecca Ho and Martina Kopacova 8-2. Amanda Field and Jennifer Hsia, playing at No. 3, won their match against Judy Wang and Theresa Whiteside 9-8.
In singles, the Hoosiers won four of the six matches. Blanch, playing at No. 2, won her match over Ho 6-3,6-2. At No. 3, Field won her match over Barnett 6-2,7-5. Zahra Ahamed, won her second consecutive Big Ten match at No. 4, with a victory over Kopacova 6-4,6-1. Hsia rounded out the Hoosiers victories with a win over Whiteside 6-0,7-6 at No. 6.
The Hoosiers will be in action tomorrow with a match against
Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio at noon.
