Minneapolis, Minn. – The No. 30 Indiana women’s tennis team closed out its regular-season road schedule by continuing to roll in Big Ten play, as it captured its six-straight Big Ten Conference win, 6-1, against Minnesota on Sunday, April 18. The Hoosiers record now stands at 15-6 overall, and 7-1 in the Big Ten. Minnesota falls to 2-17 overall and 0-8 in the Big Ten.

Head coach Lin Loring was pleased with the teams performance after a long road trip this weekend.

“It was just a good team win,” Loring said. “Minnesota is the ninth team we have beaten this year, who beat us last year. I just feel like we are playing well. After a long and tough travel weekend, I feel this was a good performance. To win two matches on the road this weekend was very good.”

In doubles play, the Hoosiers won at all three positions to gain the first lead of the match. At No. 1, senior Linda Tran and sophomore Sarah Batty upended the 51st-ranked duo of Angela Buergis and Nischela Reddy, 9-8 (6). Junior Dora Vastag and freshman Laura McGaffigan had an 8-4 win over Ida Malmberg and Lindsay Risebrough, while seniors Martina Grimm and Karie Schlukebir put away Emily Bezek and Shelby Rohrer, 8-0.

“Our No. 1 doubles team saved several match points before they won. It was exciting, and a very good win for them. “

In singles, Schlukebir and freshman Cecile Perton made quick work of the Maroon and Gold, both capturing straight-set wins, 6-0, 6-0. Schlukebir downed Bezek, while Perton captured the win over Megan Steiger.

McGaffigan was the next one off the court with a win over Malmberg, 6-3, 6-1, to win the match for the Hoosiers. Batty and Tran then added two more wins for Indiana, as Batty downed Risebrough, 6-2, 6-4 and Tran captured the 6-2, 7-6 (8) win over Reddy.

Indiana wraps up the regular season next weekend when it hosts No. 17 Illinois on Saturday, April 24, and No. 58 Purdue on Sunday, April 25.
