HOOSIERS CRUSH ILLINI IN WOMEN'S TENNIS

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's tennis team served up a solid 6-1 victory over Illinois today in preparation for their match-up with instate rival Purdue tomorrow. The Hoosiers ran their record to 11-8 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten.

Indiana's only defeat was at No. 1 singles where Correne Stout fell to Illinois' Simone Kung, 6-3, 6-1. Stout is now 21-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

Kelly Blanch was victorious at No. 2 in three sets, while it took her teammates Zahra Ahamed, Megan McCarney, and Jessica Anderson just two sets to defeat their Illini foes at No. 3, 4, and 5, respectively. Illinois defaulted at No. 6 singles, giving Christy Sharp her fourth conference victory in as many tries.

During doubles play, the IU duo of Kelly Blanch and Correne Stout were victors at No. 1, 8-5. Their record is now even at 4-4 in the Big Ten. At No. 2 doubles, Zahra Ahamed and Megan McCarney, behind an 8-2 win, are now 6-0 in the conference. The Hoosiers also won at No. 3 doubles due to another Illini default.
