On Tap...The Hoosiers will end the Big Ten regualr season with two away matches this weekend. On Saturday, they will travel to Madison, Wisconsin for a match against Wisconsin. Last year, the Hoosiers defeated Wisconsin in Madison 4-3. On Sunday, the Hoosiers will travel down to Iowa City, Iowa for a match against the Iowa Hawkeyes. In thier meeting last year, the Hoosiers defeated Iowa 6-1 in Bloomington.
Weekend Losses...The Hoosiers lost three home matches last weekend. On Thursday, the Hoosiers dropped a 6-2 match to Notre Dame. On Saturday, the Hoosiers fell to Illinois by the score of 5-2. Sunday, the Hoosiers took Northwestern down to the final two matches, before losing 4-3.
Finding Number One...The No. 1 singles postion has been a trouble spot for the Hoosiers all year long. They seem to have found the answer to this problem since junior Jessica Anderson's move up to the top spot. Since the move Anderson is 6-4 at No. 1. Overall on the season, she leads the team with a 26-10 record, while going 6-2 in the Big Ten.
20 Win Seasons...The Hoosiers have two women with 20 wins in singles this season and three with 20 wins in doubles. Besides Anderson, sophomore Ana Ceretto has won 22 singles matches. Junior Zahra Ahamed and freshman Amanda Field are the other 20 win doubles players. Field has 24 wins, while Ahamed has 23 wins.
Potpourri...Field has benn impressive in dual matches so far this spring, posting a 10-10 singles record and is now 17-14 for the year...Ceretto has posted a 22-13 singles record and a 17-9 doubles record...Sophomore Jennifer Hsia won her first Big Ten match that she played this year against Michigan State, she is now 1-1 in dual matches.
Coach Lin Loring...is currently in his 22nd season as the Head Coach of the Hoosies women's tennis team. In his 22 season's he has compiled a remarkable overall record of 530-142, while accumulating a 257-28 record against Big Ten opponents. The four-time Big Ten Coach -of the-Year and two-time National Coach-of-the -Year, has compiled an 572-159 overall record in his 26 year coaching career. Prior to Indiana, caoach Loring spent four-years as the Head Coach of UC-Santa Barbara.
Looking to the Future...The Hoosiers will take part in the Big Ten Championships next weekend in East Lansing, Michigan. The tournament will take place from April 29 to May 2.
