It's Senior Weekend for IU Women's Tennis
April 21, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's tennis will wrap up its 2011 home and regular season schedule this weekend in Bloomington as No. 62 Ohio State and Penn State visit the IU campus. It will be the final time seniors Charlotte Martin, Myriam Sopel and Katya Zapadalova will play matches at the IU Tennis Complex as the Hoosiers will face the Buckeyes on Saturday, April 23, and then will battle the Nittany Lions on Sunday, April 24. Each match is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
Indiana's Evgeniya Vertesheva hopes to keep her hot streak going as she has won four-consecutive singles matches and sits at 6-2 in Big Ten play. Her recent play has earned her a national ranking of 115th as she is 24-9 in singles play on the year, with three of those victories over ranked opponents. Leslie Hureau is currently No. 62 in the country with 22 victories on the year. Hureau is also ranked on the doubles side as she teams with Sopel as they sit at No. 48 nationally.
OSU is currently third in the Big Ten standings with a team record of 6-2 in conference matches. PSU and Indiana are tied in the league standings, so Sunday's match could determine seeding position for the Big Ten Championship at the end of April.
Sunday's match will be a special one for Martin, Sopel and Zapadalova, as each of these seniors will play together in Bloomington for the final time as Hoosiers. All three will be honored at the conclusion of the match as well as senior student manager, Ryan Miller.
